Brown City High School Principal’s Message
Brown City High School is located in the heart of the Thumb of Michigan, in a small rural community. Our High School building houses 7th through 12th grade. We are always looking for ways to improve our school by staying current with technology and academic trends. Currently, we are one-to-one with Chromebooks. Our classrooms are all outfitted with interactive TVs and Apple TV devices.
Brown City Junior/Senior High School strives to offer students the best possible opportunities for academic, athletic, and vocational training to insure preparation for high level employability in the 21st century. High School students schedule coursework in a 4-year individualized plan to satisfy rigorous graduation requirements and to prepare them for their career choices. Supplementing the solid core curriculum are elective courses, including a selection of STEM offerings in our Design Build Lab. Advanced Placement classes are offered along with many dual enrollment opportunities. Twenty one instructors offer courses for students in grades 7-12. A large percentage of students expand their opportunities by enrolling at the Sanilac Career Center for several hours of the school day.
We have a “School withIn a School” and “Seat Time Waivers” (STW) that services our non-traditional learners AND VARIED LEARNERS. WE PROACTIVELY DIFFERENTIATE INSTRUCTION TO MEET THE STUDENT NEEDS ALLOWING ALL OF OUR STUDENTS to still enjoy the day to day activities throughout our school year.
School spirit, which energizes BCHS, is evident in both co-curricular activities and athletics. More than half of Brown City's students participate in co-curricular activities, choosing from Quiz Bowl, Student Council, National Honor Society, Robotics, Athletics and more. As competitors in the Greater Thumb Conference (GTC), Brown City athletic teams have performed well in basketball, bowling, golf, track and field, cross country, baseball, football, wrestling, softball, volleyball, soccer, hockey and cheerleading.
