State Assessment Policy
According to Brown City Board of Education Policy 2623, Brown City Schools will be in compliance with laws and rules of the State Board of Education regarding student assessment (for full board policy see the above file link).
Brown City Students’ proficiencies will be assessed by the following assessments:
1. Benchmark Assessments DIBELS/STAR Grades: Kdg-6th
2. M-Step English Language Arts & Math Grades: 3rd-8th
3. M-Step Science Grades: 4th, 7th, and 11th
4. M-Step Social Studies Grades: 5th, 8th and 11th
5. Michigan Merit Exam Grade: 11th
a. SAT with essay
b. ACT WorkKeys
6. PSAT 10 Grade: 10th
7. PSAT 8/9 Grade: 9th
8. Criteria based examinations which include alternative questions, demonstrations, writing exercises etc. may also be included.
Parents have the right to have the students “opt-out” of statewide assessments. If interested, contact building principals for the paperwork necessary.
