Testing Information

Here are some helpful links and information for Students and Parents to help them better understand the Junior High and High School Testing.

Junior High

7th Grade--Our 7th graders take the M-STEP test in the spring.  They are tested in Math, ELA, and Science.

8th Grade--Our 8th graders take the M-STEP test in the spring.  They are tested in Math, ELA, and Social Studies.  They also take the PSAT 8/9 in the fall to help prepare them for the tests they will take in high school.

High School

9th Grade--Our 9th graders take the PSAT 8/9 in the fall and in the spring.  The one in the spring is used as their state assessment.  This test is given in the same format as the SAT test that students will take as juniors for their college entrance exam.

10th Grade--Our 10th graders take the PSAT/NMSQT in the fall and the PSAT 10 in the spring (for their state assessment).  Both tests are similar in difficulty and scoring, thus making it easier for us to track student growth and help prepare them for the 11th grade SAT test.

11th Grade--Our 11th graders take the PSAT/NMSQT in the fall and the SAT in the spring.  The SAT is the big test for the 11th graders, since it is most likely the score they will use when applying to colleges.  Our students also take the ACT Work Keys and M-STEP (Science and Social Studies) in the spring.

--In order to help prepare our Juniors for the SAT we offer a test prep class that is required for most students to take during their Junior year.

--We also track the data from previous PSAT tests to find a student's weakness and target that area to help them score better on the SAT.

--Our staff, in all grades, works very hard to incorporate Khan Academy as often as possible into lessons.  Khan Academy is the FREE resources offered to students, in partnership with College Board, to help students prepare for the College Board Assessments.

--Juniors are also encouraged to take the ACT, if they would like, to see which test they would score higher on.  They are allowed to use either test score (higher of the two) when applying to colleges.

Below is a Concordance Scale to help you understand the SAT scores in comparison to ACT scores.  Most of our staff and parents are very familiar with ACT scores since that has traditionally been the College Entrance Exam taken by Michigan students.
